Historical Information

Herb and Barbara Carabeo welcome you to the Kirkland Bar, Hotel and Restaurant.  It is a historical building with an exciting and colorful past.  Herb and Barb purchased the building in 1992.  Herb continuously spends many painstaking hours renovating and updating the building.  With numerous improvements, the restaurant they have acquired has earned the reputation of “The Best Food in the Area.”

Originally built in 1863, it became well-known as Wells Fargo Stage Stop by 1870.  Rumors even say in1890 it was a Bordello.  The building then became a Railroad Hotel in 1905.  Still intact is an 1880 Wells Fargo safe.  When the building was constructed the concrete walls were built “around” the safe.

The restaurant can also boast of having one of the dumb-waiters in the Arizona area.  The stairway leading down to the basement was narrow so the dumb-waiter was quite a labor saving device when hauling supplies up and down from the large basement storage area under the bar and restaurant.

The building was registered in October, 1998 as a “National Historical Site.”  The handsome historical plaque is displayed in the bar area.
